Kill the Victor and 1863

Aura Dance Theatre

Scenen

17/4–19/4 2013

Aura Dance Theatre and E=mc2 Dance met at Tanzmesse NRW in Düsseldorf in August 2012. During the autumn ideas of a future collaboration were exchanged. Now in April 2013 the collaboration starts with Aura Dance Theatre appearing at 3:e Våningen. The company will perform a double bill with the dance pieces Kill the Victor and 1863 on April 17th, 18th and 19th, at 7 pm. The same week the Lithuanian dancers will work with Gun Lund and some of the E=mc2 dancers and study one of Gun Lund’s earlier choreographies. This in turn will be performed by both the Swedish and the Lithuanian dancers at a large festival in Kaunas in July 2013.

Aura Dance Theatre, based in Kaunas is the only municipal theatre of contemporary dance in Lithuania. 2012 they celebrated 30 years of artistic work. Aura Dance Theatre often works internationally - they have visited 27 countries and performed at more than 162 festivals. Artistic Director and Choreographer Birute Letukaite is always looking for new ideas and collaborations. A recent example is the project “Moving textile”, in collaboration with Kaunas Biennial, that was nominated one of the best projects created with EU-funding. For 22 years Aura Dance Theatre has also organized an annual international dance festival.

Kill the Victor

Choreography, music, costumes and text: Amos Ben-Tal (Israel/The Netherlands)

Dancers: Gotaute Kalmataviciute, Marius Pinigis, Ema Nedobezkina

Light design: Amos Ben-Tal and Peter Lemmens
Duration: 15 min.

Premiere: 2012

64 square-meters, a box in a box, 2 females, 1 male, glistening skin, shiny metal, a pulse, a voice, a word. Now what?

The Aura Dance Company commissioned the Israeli choreographer Amos Ben-Tal to create a short piece for the company, in collaboration with the ArtEZ Dance Academy in Arnhem. It marks the start of a long-term collaboration between Aura and this well regarded academy. Amos Ben-Tal explores the paradox of achieving freedom by creating rules, or translated into dance: to improvise and add ones personal creativity within a dense web of choreographic structures and strict rules of engagement. Amos Ben-Tal is a former dancer of the Netherlands Dance Theater (NDT) and the composer and singer/guitarist of the rock band Noblesse. He has been affiliated to Korzo for a long time and lives in The Hague.

Kill the Victor is a co-production of Aura Dance Theatre, Kaunas, and Korzo productions, The Hague.

1863

Choreography: Ferenc Feher (Hungary)

Music: David Kovacsovics (Hungary)

Dancers: Ema Nedobežkina, Gotautė Kalmatavičiūtė, Solveiga Vasiliauskaitė, Marius Pinigis, Mantas Stabačinskas

Duration: 35 min.

Premiere: March 11th 2013 in Kaunas

“The purity, dignity, physicality, humor and creativity. The whole performance is like a spur wheel, which operates without stopping. Nonstop. There is no escape only the humility remains”. (F.Feher)

The object of the performance 1863 is the revolt that took place in Lithuania 150 years ago. Without illustrating the particular details of the revolt, Ferenc Feher lets the performance breathe a tense atmosphere of the battle and reflects upon our common human experience, living in peace.

1863 was created within the project “The dance without boundaries. Importing Hungary“, supported by the Lithuania Culture Support Foundation.

Choreographer Ferenc Feher is one of the most prominent personalities of contemporary dance in Hungary. His production Tao Te was awarded with the prestigious Rudolf Laban Prize for the “Best Contemporary Dance Performance of the Year” in Hungary in 2010.
